Part L
of the new building regulations is proving hard to reach and
developers are finding a biomass boiler is their most cost
effective way to meet the new rules.
Using logs or
wood chips as a fuel can provide central heating which is
cheaper than using oil, LPG or electricity, and grants help
make the initial cost much more attractive. Modern automatic
wood fuelled boilers are easy to use, reliable, efficient
and clean burning and with the wide range available means
that they can be used in virtually any property from a
farmhouse or business unit to a country manor house or
industrial process.
Many farms and estates have areas of neglected woodland and
installing a wood fuelled boiler can allow the farm to be
self-sufficient in heating fuel whilst improving the
financial and environmental value of the woodland. Small
businesses that produce waste wood can avoid disposing of it
by turning it into fuel to heat their buildings or
processes.
Production of woodfuel is an important and growing market
for low grade wood, driving the management of our neglected
broadleaved woodlands.
There is a nationwide wood fuelled boiler grant scheme
through the 'low carbon buildings' programme open to all
householders and community organisations.
